Overview
Introducing a new product range in TENA’s assortment - a washable absorbent underwear. Main focus besides sustainability was on ergonomic and functional design elements to improve usability, comfort, and peace of mind. Successful product launch 2021, and the product range has grown with more colors, designs and absorption levels since then.
As Lead product developer I was responsible for driving the cross-functional R&D team through all parts of product development in an iterative design process.

Defining performance targets to meet absorption, dryness, wearing comfort, discretion and leakage requirements
Usability
Usability testing to ensure the product is intuitive, functional and has a good user experience
Brand expression
Incorporating TENA brand expression in product design, to strengthen brand values
Manufacturability
Defining constraints and opportunities to design for manufacturing
Sustainability
Ensuring materials and design choices meet social and environmental sustainability goals
Product cost
Balancing product cost by material choices, reducing design waste and boost product lifespan

Validating and iterate design
Prototypes played a key role in testing comfort, fit, and performance, and in validating the final medical device product. Testing with real users allowed for iterative improvements throughout development. To balance brand recognition with a feminine and discreet aesthetic, we explored combining TENA’s signature wavy logo with contemporary lace patterns in the design of the lace panels — a direction that turned out both visually striking and well-received by users.
